The next GSG is on!

As we all know, the next GSG is on the weekend of 20, 21 and 22 November, which isn't far away!  Here are the graphics of the photos that you will need for each page (hopefully it's obvious which photos need to be coloured, black and white or sepia!!):

1. "The Strip"
And no, not the Las Vegas version!  A very simple yet effective layout where the photos are definitely the star.  Perfect for the photos that tell a story, with any subject.

2. "Through the Window"
Again, a layout focussing on the photos with nothing fancy to detract from the story.  Will suit any types of photos.

3. "Waves of Love"
A 'pretty' layout probably best suited to showcasing something feminine in your life using some beautiful patterned paper as the start of the page.

4. "Patchwork Quilt"
There may be a little sewing on this one, but this page is mainly about the wonderful handmade look.

5. "Fancy Frills"
We'll do something a little different with this page using fabric and ... frills!  Again, probably more suited for photos with a feminine touch.

6. "Oh So Square"
With bursts of colour and patterns, many small photos come into their own in this page.  This is a 'choose your own patterned paper from the stash' page, so any types of photos will work wonderfully!

7. "All That Glitters"
A layout using, you guessed it, glitter!  But fear not, it will not be messy and you will not walk away with glitter in your hair, in your eyebrows and between your toes!

8. "White Open Spaces"
A set of five layouts, focussing on effective use of white space while allowing you to scrap very small photos that may not be the best quality, but mean something special enough that you want to capture the memories.

I've also included a link to a pdf of a document that summarises this if you'd prefer (for printing purposes mainly): GSG Photo Requirements.

I'll give a printed copy to K to make sure she gets it!

Let me know if there any questions.  Cost is likely to be around $100-$120 this year.

Extra supplies!

Hi Scrappers,

The weekend is drawing nigh, and the excitement is building for a mammoth weekend of scrapping! The extra things you'll need to bring to the GSG are:
  1. Button collections
  2. Brad/eyelet collections
  3. Inks (black, brown, others that match photos)
  4. Adhesives (tape, Pritt, dimensional magic, 3D tape/dots, Xyron if you wish)
  5. Cutting implements (trimmer, knife, ruler, cutting mat, scissors)
  6. Tweezers
  7. Piercer
  8. Corner rounder (if you have one)
  9. Previously supplied Carolees Creations little letters
  10. Anything else you want!

The location is the Paragon Corporate Centre in Sydney Street, but we're in a different room this time - no more moving of the desks! There is a fridge, microwave and coffee making facilities, with McDonalds just down the road if you want a 'real' coffee! We will have light snacks and refreshments available throughout the weekend, but lunches are not supplied. Like previous times, we'll probably just organise something for lunch with the men.

We anticipate starting at about 7.00 on Friday night, and we'll finish whenever we finish (as we all know!). Saturday morning we'll start about 9.00am, but we'll discuss this in Friday night. Don't forget the BBQ on Saturday night... more details on the day.

Can't wait to see you all there! Hope you've got your photos ready (although I know there were STILL some hiccups)!!!

Photo needs!

Hello all,

We are trying a different approach to listing the photos you require this time - after all, we all know the trouble that a certain someone keeps having in bring the wrong photos!! So we've drawn up some little pictures that show you the photos required for each layout. If the photos needed are black and white, then the photo box has been drawn in black. If they can be colour, they are drawn in purple. Remember, that you can print your photos in black and white for all of them if you want to - it depends on how you think the colours in your photos will work. I would suggest printing out this page and taking it with you to the photo shop to order - then you can't go wrong!!

Page 1: Ribb-on & on & on

As you may have guessed, a page using ribbon as a stand out feature.

Page 2: Around the block

Using the simple yet effective methods of colour blocking, you will need a combination of colour and black and white photos for this one. You will need to think about your journalling - this will be done on the night while we show you a great trick for printing computer journalling that co-ordinates beautifully with your page.

Page 3: Love, Basically

A beautiful page that showcases a stand-out photo as the focal point.

Page 4: Little People

These photos should be of some little people in your life - your children as babies/toddlers, nieces or nephews, or even yourself as a little one. (V and N, if you need some photos, just ask C and she's got some that would be suitable if you want to use them.)

Page 5: Triple Treat

Like the name suggests, three photos are needed for this page, and would probably work best for photos similar to each other in their composition.

Pages 6 to 10: Simply Kraft

These 5 pages are the definition of 'simple scrapping'. Pages 7 to 10 would all work well as 81/2 x 11 pages if you would prefer.

Hopefully everyone can work out the photo requirements now - and there's no excuse for getting them wrong! Please let me know if you have any questions.

In the meantime, happy scrapping, and check back soon.

Timetable

I've had a few questions about the times for the Getaway next weekend. Here's what we're aiming for:

Friday
Start: 6:30pm
Finish: 10:00pm (or earlier)
Saturday
Start: 9:00am
Lunch: 1:00pm - 2:00pm
Finish: 6:00pm
Sunday
Start: 9:00am
Finish: 2:00pm

If last year is anything to go by, we're likely to be running behind schedule... as most scrappers are probably used to!!

And another note about the Friday night kits, all of the kits are of a female persuasion, or something able to be scrapped using feminine products (such as couple photos, etc).

Any questions, let me know!

Stay posted for a list of basic tools you will need to bring...

Friday Night Challenge!

Hello scrappers,

The kits have been put together, and are just screaming to be scrapped! The Friday Night Challenge kits look beautiful, and here's what you need to know to complete the challenge:
  • Each scrapper will be provided with a co-ordinating kit (each attendee will be presented with a custom kit, so no two are the same), consisting of patterned papers, cardstock and various embellishments.
  • You will need to complete a layout (single or double - your choice) using only the products in your kit (plus of course adhesives).
  • You need to bring photos to complete your page - whatever photos you want. (I would suggest black and white photos, or those with neutral tones, as the kit colours will not be disclosed until the night.)

If anyone has any questions, just leave a comment or contact Fiona or Caitie directly.

Happy scrapping!

Photo Requirements

Hello 'Get Scrappers'!

Only 2 weeks to go until our getaway! To make sure everyone has their photos ready on time, we've compiled a list of required photos for you. Please let me know if you have trouble getting any of the required photos to size, and I will sort something out for you.

Layout 1 - Doodling Around
A fun, eye-catching layout to challenge your 'freestyle' skill! This layout features bright colours on a black background, so keep that in mind when choosing the theme of your photos.
Photos:
2 3x4 landscape, black and white
1 6x8 landscape, black and white

Layout 2 - Photo Mania
A double-page layout to showcase a multitude of photos. Be prepared to be 'dazzled'! This layout will use happy, summery colours.
Photos:
1 4x6 landscape
1 4x5 landscape
4 3x4 landscape
2 2x3 portrait
1 2x3 landscape

Layout 3 - Are We Crazy?
An stunningly intricate layout, using muted, sophisticated tones to bring out the beauty of you and your sister/s. This page is based around sisters, so your photo should include sisters of some persuasion.
Photos:
1 5x7 landscape, black and white

Layout 4 - A Bunch of Flowers
This gorgeous page would be perfect for a photo that deserves to shine! Unusual, yet appealing colour schemes are used for this feminine page. Beware: journalling IS required!
Photos:
1 6x8 landscape OR 2 4x6 portrait, black and white
1 6x4 journalling block (please prepare journalling, and bring written on scrap paper)

Layout 5 - Infused with Love (and Time)
A beautiful mix of colours and patterns from the much-loved Basic Grey ranges is used in this beautiful page, perfect for a photo of that special someone. Tones of pinks and red feature in this layout.
Photos:
1 4x6 portrait, black and white/sepia

As always, there will be a special Friday night challenge - stay posted for photo requirements. This year's 'project' will not be requiring photos - just bring your enthusiasm!

If you have any questions about any of the planned layouts, or colours to be used (for photo matching purposes) please just let me know!

Only 14 more sleeps! Have a good weekend,
Caitie and Fiona

A snapshot of previous getaways

The layout to the right was completed by a scrapper at the successful 2006 'Get Scrapped' Getaway. The 'Mask-erade Ball' layout session was a hit, with each attendee receiving a Heidi Swapp mask to take home. The layout kits received during each session were generous, with packets of Heidi Swapp ghost letters, rhinestone brads, chipboard letter packs just some of the goodies taken home at the end of the weekend.

An 'essentials kit' was also given to each scrapper, consisting of basic but consumable items, such as adhesive tape, ink, journalling pens, and exciting extras.

The Friday night Becky Higgins sketch challenge resulted in some beautiful layouts, with Karen taking out the much sought after first prize (despite some confusion over which sketch was being scrapped)! (Layout to the left is not the fantastic winning layout.)

Attendees were given a list of required photos and their sizes and themes. Most of the layouts completed were suited to the scrapper, with a choice of theme or colour being offered prior to the event.

Other layouts completed included 'Ribbons and Bling' (a unique layout comprising acetate, ribbon and rhinestone jewels), 'Stripes stripes stripes' (a stunning mix of striped patterned paper to create a colourful yet simple layout) and a double page tribute to Mum, in 'With Mum It's All Black and White'.

Overall, the getaway was a raging success, with many requests for another getaway to be held in 2007. Well, we didn't really have any choice but to oblige!
